Ok,I have an embarrassing electronics question.I've browsed through Google, and YouTube with surprisingly no reults.(maybe I'm tying in the wrong words in the search box?) I understand how spdt,dpdt,3pdt switch's throws work, but I don't understand how to test with a dmm,if the switch is good or not?Any help with this topic,I would be gladly appreciative. Thanks in advance!

Hi

Get your DMM and find out the Diode/Connectivity test. With the SW in front of you and with lugs this was "─" not this "|", number 1st top row from left 1 2 3, center town from left 4 5 6, bottom row 7 8 9. now put a DMM's pin to 4 and then to 1 if it beeps then check 5 with 2 and 6 with 3, if not it must beep with 7, then check 5 with 8 and 6 with 9.

These are the only possible connections, if it beeps ie 4 with 2 if 6 with 8, then you have a bad switch  ;)
one throw connects 4 5 6 with 1 2 3 respectively
second throw connects 4 5 6 with 7 8 9 respectively

1  2  3
─ ─ ─
4  5  6
─ ─ ─
7  8  9
─ ─ ─

Ok awesome!So,if 2+4 and 6+8 beeps,you've got a bad switch.Is that correct?Thanks!

Yeah, with nothing wired to the switch, there should be no connection between 2 and 4 or 6 and 8. Once you wire it into a circuit you might have connections between those pins, you would need to look at the schematic and figure out what connects to what.

Very handy, thank you for the explanation. I wondered how they worked, that makes sense now.
