Why no oversized pedal enclosure love anymore?

I'm all for pedal board real estate and the challenge of fitting circuits into tiny spaces but I really feel there is beginning to be a 1590B or 125B overload going on at the moment.  Anybody still intentionally building in oversized enclosures?  Pics?  Personally I love the look of a chunker.

I could have sworn there was a thread in the pictures subforum, but I can't seem to find it.  Maybe it's time to start one?

I like big pedals as well. Not sure about those tiny ones

chumbox

Yeah I could find a thread of pics either, that could well be my skills but.

I have clunky feet. I like them big too, but I keep running out of space so I'm trying to learn to build small and stomp more accurately.

I've got a 1550G flanger (Lovetone ? Flange With No Name) on my board :) and a 1790NS phaser (Lovetone Doppelganger.)

I've also got a Hammond 1456KL3 with a phaser in it in the works (Infinitphase.)

Big boxes are fun, but putting too many at once on a pedalboard can be troublesome.

If you have just two or three pedals bigger is better for me.
But I also think that the box dimension is not so important, given that the switch we use is always of the same size and area; bigger box make the pedal more stable.
In therms of "stomping", or "stompable", area the boss are still the boss; and they are not too big pedals... Sadly it would be difficult to us mere diyers to implement something similar.

As Alanp referenced....here's a Doppleganger clone - with a reference shot for size comparison.

That's a 125B, a 1590a and a 1590bb inside of it... :o

1590BB is my box of choice, something like Big Muff just doesn't look right in the smaller box  ;D
Plus, easier to get stuff inside ;)

Liquitone

I haven't made any pedals with deliberately oversized enclosures, but I often choose larger enclosures over smaller ones, with the jacks/power mounted at the top because they take up the same real estate as smaller enclosures with side-jacks, but still gives me the extra room I usually need for turret style builds.

Could be that peeps are scared that an oversized box could be mistaken in public as a means of compensating for a less-than-gigantic masculinity, just like oversized cars etc. So everybody started cramming stuf into the smallest possible box ... to broadcast a message like "... just look at me, I exude overconfidence ..."

And it's also enviro-mentally-friendlier, so hey... it's not all that bad

Here we are with the big enclosures:

I also agree with putting all of the cable connections on the top so you can abut the pedals right beside each other.

I have different knobs on it now, but I built a giant Ludwig Phase II

I have standardized on 125B enclosures for most pedals, 1590B for smallish one or two knob effects, and 1590BB for larger effects.  For me, the 125B is MUCH easier to box because of the extra 0.5 inches of height - it allows me to put the circuit board on top of the control pots without fear that a tall component or long wires will be mashed down (and damaged) when I put the back on.

I'm a big fan. I have two pedals with 4 stomps.  A little too close but the pedals do everything, but I recently harvested a piece of 1u rack gear. I've removed the rack ears and the guts.  It's under 5" deep and I was thinking of putting several fuzzes, maybe an Eq, maybe a delay.  A DIY analog (mostly)multi fx unit.  But I don't see any of these. Why is that? Is there a downside I'm going to encounter?  I figure I'll probably get sick of one particular pedal and yank it and use its holes and switches for something else. Each circuit within would have its own pc board.  Am I going to regret going this route?

Here's a couple of 1590XX pedals, same size as the big EHX pedals.

hey man...these oversized boxes pictured kind of need the size because of the amount of knobs & switches. let's see a chunker with a couple knobs and a stomp switch!  ...and not the same rectangular clichés :icon_twisted:
always think outside the box

I think glops works this angle really well, his pedals seem to look quite generous in real estate vs. electrical components count, for example (& lots more in the pictures thread).

I haven't been round here much lately. So many insane builds lately here.

My die-cast enclosures have more internal real-estate by being higher, therefore moving connectors out of the plane of the PC board, and allowing for the battery to stand vertical. Big hinged pedal with tactile feel, and knobs protected from being stomped.
