Hey!
I am building my first NPN fuzz and I was wondering whether it is possible to switch between BC108 and BC109 using on/on DPDT switch?
like this(only with both the Q1 and Q2 obviously, and with both of their B's and C's wired to board)

Thanks!

Well, you probably COULD, but it would be a lot of effort for little gain, in my opinion.  Don't forget, the bias will change, too, and you'll probably get a nasty *POP* when you switch.

I'd just as easily build another fuzz, and switch between the two CIRCUITS, myself...I don't think transistor switching is a good idea.  But, it's a good question!   And it's been done before, in other applications...

It's not worth switching between a 109 and a 108, you'll hardly hear a difference. Maybe a lower gain with the 8 or 9, better still a germanium. You'll need the bias as an external control, which isn't a bad thing as you can tune a lot of good tones using it. Beavis Audio research site has a page of switching applications, transistor switching being one of them.

Also, you only want to switch Q2 which does the clipping. Q1 is just an amp and you won't hear much if any difference. I find a low gain in Q1 is best, under 100hfe, but then I'm not a high gain guy.
