Do you think these indicator LEDs are just increasing value resistors on each dual color LED?

Thanks.  I've been looking for a schematic but can't find one, but the LEDs were my interest.  If you're saying it's like the... Engineer's Thumb, then I kind of understand.  This is my first research into LED VU meters.  I will start researching the LM3916 to see how to hook one up input/output similar to the EE Compressor.

Different resistors will change the maximum brightness but not the turn-on voltage.

Anyway the turn-on for an LED is a very high audio level (far above guitar level).

You want "stuff". LM339 can be rigged to compare audio to small reference voltages and drive LEDs. LM391x is a more complete solution (annoyingly full-featured).
