How would I implement buffers in my volume pedal circuit? Does it go before or after the pot, or both? And what buffer would you recommend using?  :icon_lol:

Is this a circuit you're currently designing or is this to bolt onto an existing volume pedal?

And are you talking about honest-to-goodness opamp buffers or descrete JFET "yeah man, it's like, clean, but not really" pseudo buffers?

You would probably want the buffer before the pot, to unburden the guitar from the pot. This woudl also allow you to use a much lower-resistance pot, like 10k or even 5k, for lower noise. A pro design would have buffers on the input and output.

I'm building my vp from scratch by chopping up a 125b for my pt nano.

I guess the buffers would be to prevent tone suckage if it were to be passive? This is what I've learned from my research.

I've found most people suggesting to slap a buffer before the pot, but don't elaborate on which ones. So done also said to have it before and after.

What would the difference be by placing buffers before and after the pot, instead of just before?

A buffer before the pot can ensure the guitar sees a high input impedance, while the buffer has the muscle to drive a low-value pot, which minimises noise.

A buffer after the pot ensures the pot taper is not affected by external loads, and the buffer has the muscle to drive low impedance loads like long cables, as well as providing a low output impedance which provides immunity to external hum.
