Do I left the ocd alone over the weekend, and came back to it to find voltages are all over the place; 1.5v on pins 1-3, 3.5v on pins 5,6,7.
Sick of it. I literally have not changed a thing and now it's stuffed.

I wonder if there's a problem with the board itself? I built a Big Muff for a friend and ran into incredible problems, but the layout had no errors. It was only after tracing through the circuit with an audio probe and isolating the problem in one of the gain stages that I found the problem by accidentally touching two unpopulated holes and getting a beep on the multimeter. Turns out several of the holes were fused under the coating and were causing serious problems, making random connections all over the place.

Sorry to hear about the trouble.  I presume your source voltage is ok (9V) - that is, if you're using a battery, the battery itself is not drained.  In any case, try a new IC.  And try using an audio probe to see if you can find where the sound suddenly changes.  If it still is a problem, I suppose you can try another build... :-[
