Rack mount DIY 'stuff'

Thought I'd start a thread for rack mounted DIY things ...

Power supply unit I rebuilt. Started off as a single +/- 15V, then I wanted to add +/- 12V output ... the voltages from fixed regulators were never quite right on. Also output was sagging under load (single 2A output transformer). So I rebuilt the using adjustable regulators, and seperate 3.57A output transformers for each +/- voltage.

Originaly had only two LED's, added another p0air for the other output, but alginment slighty off.



Using three pin Mate-n-Lock connectors for output (had a bunch of pre made cables from my field service days), oh yeah also a pair of AC outlets (switched)



Inside layout, circuit built on Radio Shack protoboards

I'm realising I didn't describe the 'chassis' ...

It is a Hammond 1434-32 (17" W x 10" D x 3" H) bolted onto a blank Hammond (unfinished 2U - 3.5" high) aluminum rack mount panel via a pair of Hammond M268-1 handles (had these forever, no longer available)

Here is Thomas Henry designed Voltage Controlled Analog Delay... Not working yet. Need to build Armnrdy's BBD tester to test my SAD4096.

Built the chassis from scratch, using a blank Hammond Grey 1U panel for starters.

my Craig Anderton inspired mixer, 6 channel input, added a three band tone control with bypass, FX loop and In-phase, Out-phse and XLR outputs to cover all the bases.

Par-Metal enclosure which I picked up somewhere in Toronto.

Scratch, great stuff. I've been wanting to build some rack mount units for myself, no one seems to do it much.

Thanks Glops! I think on the whole rack mount enclosures are more expensive than stompbox ones. So I'm on the lookout to find ways to roll your own cheaper.

Great looking builds Scratch! Nice to see room to breath, get claustrophobic looking at all the 1590A's.

Thanks Dave! Indeed, I like some room to layout 'stuff' inside an enclosure. I have an Anderton Phase Shifter with envellope follower in the a chassis the same as the mixer. I'll be posting picture of it next.

I'm working on a couple of smaller (Bud) enclosures for a couple of things right now and I'm trying a half reack setup for another couple of things.

Not enuf hours in the day ...

With multiple effects in one enclosure, you have room to allow a switched input/output bus structure.  The input and each output goes to a line that can be selected by any effect input using a rotary switch and you can get one input jack and one output jack and have the effects connected in any order or disconnected entirely.

Amptramp, something I might consider down the road ... my current set of projects uses most of the front panel, not leaving room for switching

Rich does can your bruv in law make stuff like this to buy. I would love some custom enclosures to my spec. Same enclosures for a floor unit about 10 off and in the UK.
