some progress

the thing with these types of complex mixed signal layout (mixing analog and digital) is they get harder to work on the more "finished" you are. you run out of available space for traces, and are forced into positions where you have to put certain types of traces near others (or components) you don't want them near, such as putting a sensitive audio trace near a noisy digital trace.

ok, well that layout was a little bit hard

I'll spend the next couple days staring at it while I shake off the PTSD and make sure there aren't any errors. then its off to osh park

Looking really good Etienne, looking forward to reading the progress as it comes along.  :icon_biggrin:

ordered the PCB from osh park. now waiting for a min 3 weeks.  :-\

in the meantime, I can do more software work on it, like bypass logic, debounce on both the buttons, setting recall logic on the modulation controls when switching modes, tap tempo logic, etc.

and the art! I haven't decided on a theme, yet.

No, wrong one -  I meant Methusalah.

or...

Even the longest delay decays eventually, so, Entropy?

cloudscapes

entropy is nice

I also kind of thought bubble chamber. not because it makes any sense but because bubble chambers are cool and offer interesting art potential.
I'll probably think of something else.....

Digital Larry

PCB layout isn't fun until you start dreaming about it... solving some incredibly impossible routing challenge... only to wake up <poof> - which is one of the reasons I eventually gravitated away from hardware design.

I actually usually like the PCB layout part! Maybe because I'm a very visual person, it's kind of like designing a maze, with some rules. Looking back on this one however, I think I could have saved myself the less-fun parts by doing it a 4 layer board instead. The amount of star grounding, and 4ish voltage supplies (9v, 5v digital, 3.3v digital, 4.5v analog ref) made the whole thing not as elegant as it could have been.

Happy new year everyone!

recorded this little bit today

just a loop in the 3.5-14 second delay range, then hold. playing around with the speed of the loop, the ringmod, and direction/freeze feature. I unlatch hold at 3 minutes and let the thing feedback on itself again.

somewhat nervewracking is not knowing if you did everything correctly until you plug it in. so much work into the board layout, and a pretty penny too.
