Here is a new one I came up with. A very video-game'ish sounding pedal. :)
It does PWM or octave up, octave down (one or two octaves down) and modulation that alternates between the two octaves.
I usually want to keep my own stuff simple, but I went all out with this one.  :icon_cool:

Sorry about the very long demo-video  :)

I noticed after I had completed my pedal that it does similar sounds to the "Two Step" by Arr!FX.
But circuit-wise they are very different, and my design is a bit simpler with only 3 chips.

A verfied vero layout can be found at my blog:

What a filthy noisy piece of kit!!!!!

Love it!
I'd have no need for one but want one know!!!!!!
You can easily see how a guitarist could shape a few songs with that. Brilliant work!

knutolai

nice work! where did you get the switch covers? I cant find green ones anywhere :P

Freppo

I'm glad you guys like it :)

They were in a kit of assorted colors switch covers from banzaimusic.de

This + the ring mod = Mind blown.

I'm talking some serious brain spillage here.

Hey man, very cool, nice low component count design! I did a four step version too and called it the arcade.. Looks like we're on the same page  :P
I like the blend in there, it really gives it something extra, that octave up unmodulated, that gives you a lead to play melody over it. (I did something similar but with an extra octave down, but up is better) Plus the ability to switch the lfo is nice too.
I'm working on a deluxe version of that. But it have a bit of a luxury problem.. I have eight steps and half step pitch intervals of the fundamental available (up and down), but what should I pick for the steps??

bluesdevil

Excellent as usual!!
With that yellow knob full on and the red knob about halfway, it gave me a "Pong" flashback from when I was a kid in the late seventies.
Thanks for sharing your great projects, I've built three so far.

Uh oh, Freppo Escobedo's at it again ;)

That's brilliant Freppo! Lot's of tweaks for the outlay.

And no unused gates!

~arph, are we going to see that soon? Are there any 4017's involved?

Kipper4

Excellant. Another from your PWM period mate? 8)

Cool! Oh, your is called The Arcade?  Didn't know that.  :icon_rolleyes:  :icon_redface: Great minds think alike right?  :icon_razz:
Do you have any soundclips for the four step version? I only read about and listened to the two step version.
Hmm.. That's a tricky one. I'm looking forward to hearing the result of your deluxe version. :)

Thanks!

Actually, it was you that made it clear to me how I could make a 4070 gate either inverting or non-inverting.
That made me think of a way to utilize that feature.. :)
This part of the circuit turns the gate into either inverting or non-inverting with the use of a LFO.

Since the input get mixed with the output, the signal gets cancelled out every time the gates goes inverting.

So I sent the one octave down output from the cd4024 though one gate, and the other two octaves down output goes though another gate
But the other gate has the LFO inverted, so the result are alternating octaves.. :)

Here's a schematic for another design that uses the same idea to create a "stutter" fuzz. I just breadboarded it once, but it worked great.

Probably not, I'm a bit stuck as to which direction I should take it. No 4017 this time. It uses two attiny84's right now. One for the sequencer and one for the input division/ multiplication

Yup, there is a pic and a link to my soundcloud in the two step thread here: http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=96658.20
The arcadiator is a nice name too!  8) I was going to call it Arkanoid first..
Btw, this is a direct link to the 4 step version sample: https://soundcloud.com/arrfx/arcade2

Oh and we have more in common..  ::)

Nice! The four step version sounds really cool. I also love you ringdroid!
Very cool projects!

I actually have an idea for a sample & hold project myself...  :icon_rolleyes:
But it will be more of a resonant filter thingy.

However, I'm moving in a few days and all my stuff will be packed up for a few weeks...
I don't know how I will survive...  :icon_confused:  :icon_lol:

Great design!  Outrageous sounds with minimal, tight circuitry.  XOR your way to freedom!

Just wondering, has anybody worked up a pcb for this?

A forum member at the madbean forum made a layout. You can find it in this thread:

There is also a fabbed PCB coming soon for sale at: http://www.rullywow.com :)

Now, you're sure there isn't really a SN76477, SN76488, or AY-3-8910 in there?
