We've developed a new circuit that we feel is our best work thus far. Over ten years ago, we began our amp-inspired distortion odyssey with the Thunderchief and later refined it as Thor. For the third time we have focused our efforts on capturing the majestic sound of a Marshall Super Lead amplifier, but this time we set aside size and simplicity constraints in favor of getting the best results sound-wise.

Here's a clip of Thunderbird recorded direct using a 4x12 cabinet impulse response. The guitar is a Van Halen style with a Floyd Rose bridge and single humbucking pickup.

Nice one ROG. Sounds Great.
Looking forward to seeing it.
Ma throats as dry as an overcooked kipper.

Smoke me a Kipper. I'll be back for breakfast.

Wow, there's some 'Breaking News' here! can't wait for the schem... ;)
Life is too short for being regretful about it.

Another brief clip.  This time with all controls (except Level) at 12:00.

I play in a classic rock cover band and have gigged the pedal heard in the clips for 3 shows and 12 rehearsals at this point.  I have received positive comments on the sound.

Sounds great Gary (some Led Zeppelin riffing going on  :icon_biggrin: ).  What guitar did you use?  Also, was this direct to a sound card or from a miked amp.
I'm also hoping we can have a vero layout fairly soon after the release, as that is my preferred building method (unless there is a prefab PCB).  Good work, Runoffgroove!

Yes and what are the settings for clips 2 and 3?  ;D  clip 2 is a bit noisy

I stand by my original comment...Holy Crap...I haven't build anything in a long while...but I am itching to build this thing to see what it sounds like with my setup....again...wow... :icon_eek:

Sorry, I forgot to state this was recorded direct with cabinet IR added in the DAW.  Guitar was a Parker PM20 (similar to a Les Paul) with DiMarzio PAFs.  Left channel is completely dry.  Right channel has a touch of reverb.

I'll be on it as soon as the schematic is available :D

Thanks!  Perhaps the ROG folks could provide links to verified veroboard layouts when they become available.

Interested I am! Funny thing, I have also been working on a Marshall fet circuit but have been using some Cameron/Jose/Aldrich/Fortin schematics to see if I can get that really over the top high gain VH sound. I have some good results so far!  I will post some schematics and clips when I am home and not on this damn phone... I have been obsessing over this for a long time now!
Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

Gary

Before we had the data loss, STM asked what choice of semiconductor(s) were being used for this circuit.

Here's a clue courtesy of a google search:

Sounds great.

Looks like 3 sets of clipping diodes with 3 dual op-amps and a charge pump?
I'm a refugee of the great dropbox purge of '17.
Project details (schematics, layouts, etc) are slowly being added here: http://samdump.wordpress.com

Whole lotta opamp.

And 10 diodes for the tone (sans one for the "Volts").

Runoffgroove gone Rockman. :)

So....One opamp stage for every tube stage in a plexi? ..Each opamp stage emulating what's going on in the corresponding tube stage? ...sort of like the lhx2  ?..sounds real good. .. :)
