ok i'm pretty much a noob so i apologize in advance, but i cannot get the porentiometers to stay right in my first build because
of a piece of metal that sticks up on one side of the pot, not allowing me to twist the nut on evenly. i took a picture but i can't find a way to post it here so if there is a way to do that (from my phone) maybe you can tell me. i'm sorry i am the worst.

Welcome!  We've all had the same question in the beginning. Just take some needle nose pliers and snap it off. It's there in case you want to drill a small hole for it to sit in and keep your pot from twisting during use. Some do that, but most of us don't.

BTW-to post photos:

1) Subscribe to a photo hosting site such as photobucket and upload your photos to it.

2) Click the image icon above. It will give you {img}{/img} in the text, but the brackets will square.

3) Copy the photos' direct links from the hosting site and then paste each link between the image brackets like this :

{img}www.mylink.jpg{/img}

{img}www.mylink2.jpg{/img}

{img}www.mylink3.jpg{/img}

Hit "quote" in the upper right corner of my reply to see how I posted the photo below.

+2.

also, if you want to tell the next person how to do images, hit the button. anything you put between them is not re-interpreted by the interperator, so it shows like -

[img]www.mylink.jpg[/img]

[img]www.mylink2.jpg[/img]

[img]www.mylink3.jpg[/img]

- and you won't need to tell people about brace shapes.

Aha. Thanks for the info, Duck.

My CDO* doesn't allow me to use [code][/code] tags when I'm not actually inserting code.  So I ... actually, see what I did there?  ;)

Use the button to give you [img][/img] tags, then insert an "empty" pair of bold [b][/b] tags (or similar) inside the first [img] tag, so you have something like this:

        [[b][/b]img]foo.com/bar.jpg[/img]

I really need to get out more...   ::)   And apologies to OP for appalling derailing of this thread!  ;D

no need to apologise, the derail is one of the rules, remember?

I thought one of the other rules[sup]*[/sup] was "none shall speak the name of foo.bar (or associated websites)".

* does it seem I'm just making these rules up as I go?

I love "tabs on pots", to be discussed shortly. and thanks if you might tell me how to write scunthorpe, now (then?) we will be able to discuss spine millington books.

Keeps us on our toes.   :)

BTW, you can use the same "trickery" to write auto-censored (but innocuous) words like "cocktail" and "Scunthorpe".

Oh dear. This is soooooo not at all anything to do with tabs on pots...    :icon_rolleyes:  ;D

> a piece of metal that sticks up on one side of the pot

Put the pot in loose, the way you want it to be.

Press and turn so the tab scratches the panel.

Take the pot out and run a 1/8" drill at the scratch.

Now when you put the pot in, it sits square and WILL NOT TURN even when the nut loosens up. This is part of Long Term Reliability, as discussed in another thread.

Sure, for first and self-builds, just bust the tab off. But once you are set-up to drill tab-holes, it is nearly as easy and stays put better.

And +3 for imgur.com (I *hate* PhotoBucket).

This x1000 photobucket and such delete images way too often, frustrated seeing these image not found on photobucket images. Still havent seen the dead fish pedal thanks to that.

Interesting issues folks have with Photobucket. I believe you, but I'll say that the iPhone app for Photobucket works like a charm. No problems at all for me.  Your mileage may vary.  ;)

Photobucket works great for you.  Your cat pukes on your laptop.

Some you win, some you lose.   ;D

The problem isn't it "working" per se, but rather the fact that older images get deleted very fast so half year old posts become obsolete.

Jdansti

^ I just checked my oldest photo and it was uploaded 11/1/2012. Maybe I paid a fee when I installed the app.
