Successful digital delay builds

has anyone here had luck with pt2399 delays, or bad luck?

I have been wanting to build one, and according to the taptation forum, the delay chips and digital potentiometer chips are pretty hit and miss 

So, I don't want that to happen! Are there any other chips worth trying? or other methods?

Just built the Rebote 3.0 delay from tonepad.com and love it. It's a pt2399 delay with 3 of them in it. Had no issues with it from start to finish.

I had good luck with the Rebote 2.5, but the EchoBase is giving me problems.  That's not a circuit flaw though, that's the builder's flaw.

The Rebote 3 looks sweet, I almost wish I'd gone with that instead of the EchoBase...heck, nothing wrong with building a bunch of delays I suppose.

I always hear about the PT2399 locking up, but with delay stuff I haven't had any problems.  Building choruses with PT2399 have had more lockup for me.

some quick tips to avoid disaster/"why is there no sound?" with the PT2399:
-Minimum 1k resistance from pin 6 to ground
-Ground both the Analog and Digital grounds (according to others this isn't necessary for all chips, but has been for all hte ones I've tried)
-Socket the chip!

Depends whether you want tap tempo or not

If you don't, the Multiplex is hard to beat. Sounds amazing!

I'm glad to hear about successful Rebote 3 builds. It's a little over the top but it's nice to have the option of longer delays.

The delay control you've worked out is fantastic! I use it in my 2xPT2399 delay

never had a pt2399 lockup...

and never had a problem with any delays ive built/designed using them....no probs.


however, i have never used a tap tempo either mainly because ive never seen a diy tap tempo

being tested against a bpm click in real time to show the ''reality'' of timing accuracy.....

If it's going to be tap tempo... it's gotta be accurate. I've also noticed some people's builds have funky things that the LED's do.

The uk-electronic tap tempo is basically the same as the taptation, it uses a digital pot to set the delay time. So it will suffer the same problems as the taptation, its accuracy will depend on the tolerance of the pot, the PT2399, the supply voltage of the PT2399 etc.

In my opinion if you want tap tempo delay you're probably better off buying a commercial pedal.

hmmmm.... so diy taps are a little bit moody as i suspected then...cheers ian.

i was wondering how a tap would behave with 4 pt2399's current mirrored with a 2M time pot....hmmmmm....?

maybe there are pots that have better tolerance consistently.
