Yikes.  I realized that while I said Obsidian, I meant Blackfire.

my fav is the transistor big muffs.  i love the big, thick, chunky thing!

distortion with definition/clarity of ringing chords and a bite?  :icon_twisted:

or..erm....another fuzz:icon_neutral:

Thanks Aron and Mark for setting me straight.

It's hard to imagine over 10 years has past since those fruitful days.
I know I built some of those on my breadboard back then.

Interesting the number of commercial multi-stage JFET pedals around nowadays.
Aron, I can remember when you did the your mutli-stage  JFET "Odious".

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Maybe I understand what you mean Rob!

I use a Bsiab 1 or 2  , set for really low distortion and a mosfet booster from AMZ in front of it into a clean amp.
That gives me the chord clarity and bite I like , the rest I dial in with my volume pot.

After all of these years I still use my Shaka pedals. It just fits me. For higher gain, I always try some of my other builds - Ross distortion->SD9 tone control, my modified Rat, some of my higher gain JFET pedals. Rob, yes, amazing how time flies by. Crazy!!!!

I cant see too well but i guess the collector resistors are 4k7?

I was llooking over that blackfire schematic?   kinda sorta resembles a big muff?

You may take a look at 'Mad Professor's Stone Grey distortion'.
Life is too short for being regretful about it.

The Blackfire and pretty much all of Joe's stuff is awesome!

The first transistor in each pair is biased at the base by 4M7 to V+ and 1M to ground.  The first transistor has a 100k emitter resistance.

If you have a Metro Plexi 12000 then you might not need a distortion pedal... Good old tube screamer will get you deep in the brown ;)
Doesn't matter what you did to get it... If it sounds good, then it is good!

Haven't been here much lately... but trying to get back into doing some things I enjoy. Nice to see so many "familiar faces" still around.
