Hello All,

I am a huge fan of ORANGE amps, especially their little TINY TERROR used by artists such as Jim Root from Slipknot, but ,unfortunately, the loudness and the price tag are not for my neighbourhood or my pocket.

So I started researching and found the schematic for the amp:

I'm wondering how good it would sound and how loud it would be with a ECC99 as a power tube. Something like Firefly but with a TINY TERROR preamp.

    The Firefly schematic is here:

Did anyone try or knows web page where I can find some build log for it? I looked around but found nothing.

If you can help please do.

Regards,
M.

Hi,
I found some time ago something similar...but in a french forum.
If you don't know french, google does the job.

http://www.projetg5.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?t=3786

It has a build log, and schematic, and also uses an ecc99.

There's nothing speacial about tiny terror's preamp; two stages of mid biased triodes with fully bipassed cathodes. The only thing is the anode bypass cap at the second stage that will filter some highs. so I think tiny terror's tone mostly comes out of the power amp, and using tiny terror's preamp in front of Firefly's power amp won't exactly give you the tiny terror's character.

Life is too short for being regretful about it.

Can't provide a link right now, but do a search for the MiniAmp 2.0.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for sharing your links.

Thank you Mr. Thomasha, I like your vids and amps they are super cool they inspired me, you are from where man? Anyway, I know french, with the help of uncle Google: https://translate.google.pl/translate?sl=fr&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=pt-PT&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.projetg5.com%2Fphpbb3%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ft%3D3786&edit-text=

Read the articles and the post it helps to laydown the pre-plan for it.

Thank you Mr. Rotylee, the http://lemontheo.perso.sfr.fr/Lemon%20Amps/Nano-Graphic%20MKII/Nano-Graphic%20MKII.pdf they helped out.

Thank you also Mr.Jubal81 and Tomasha again. The Poweramp in this page :https://diyguitarfreak.wordpress.com/2010/09/15/the-miniamp-2-0/ gave me an idea about how to get it running with the Orange preamp, Im almost sure now that I can use the original preamp from the Tiny Terror with the ECC99 in push-pull with a Hammond 125C with the impedance set to around 11 or 12 k. The total output will be arround 3 watts if im not mistaken. I just think that the power supply in this version needs to be improved with a bit more overkill and change the configuration a bit. Also one more fuse but besides that all is ok. I will decide this weekend and hopefully start building next week. Will keep a build log in this page.

Thank you also for your comment Mr.Sajy_ho,  the Tiny Terror sound is very organic and uncompressed thanks to its simplicity, and the ECC99 will not give the same, but I hope it will be close enough to have a few laughs and RIFFs.

Regards,
M.

If you can find 6AK6 tube you can build the output stage using the tiny terror topology and you will get closer to what you want, because it's a pentode and sound character is a lot like EL84. In class AB push-pull it will pull out around 3.5W.
The only thing you should consider is max plate voltage that should be around 180V for 6AK6.

I built a firefly, then switched out the 12au7 power tube for an ecc99 (this version is called a Dragonfly).  Have to change out the bias resister (halve it, I think)  but it's Def a more versatile amp this way. Ronsound makes a PCB and a full build instructions pdf. Hands down my favorite amp.
