Trimmer Tuning?

I've come across my first build with a trimmer.  But I don't have an oscillascope. I'm told I need one to tune the trimmer properly.  Is this absolute? Is there no way to do this without one?
Keep on keepn on.

the real must for trimmers is a screwdriver :)
"NOT FLAMMABLE" is not a challenge

What's meant is that you hang the scope on point in the circuit where something is happening, then turn the trimmer till the scope shows a particular waveshape. In many cases, your ears are a perfectly good measuring instrument for knowing when the trimmer setting is correct.

All right, so I just pull out a screwdriver, adjust it a little, test the pedal and repeat until it sounds good? any tips?

I think that it would be a great idea to let us in on what you are building.

You may...or may not need an oscilloscope to "tune" it in.
I just designed a new fuzz circuit! It almost sounds a little different than the last fifty fuzz circuits I designed! ;)

It's a tonebender 3 knob clone.

Do an Internet search for the correct voltages for your transistor biases on a Tonebender MkIII circuit and tune with a multimeter to get them voltages. Then finish tuning by ear. If it sounds right then it must be right.
Why won't this @$&$ing thing work?

ok. what would you suggest i use as my searching phrase, "tonebender mk3 transistor voltages"?

Or maybe Tonebender MkIII transistor biasing. Check here or the Tagboard effects forum. You will find it somewhere.

Get your buddy to play while you diddle the trimmer.

FWIW: there seem to be a billion "tonebender 3 knob clones" and not all have trimmers. WHERE did you get your plan? Do they have a clue?
