Hey dudes,

I am starting this build:

http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/ehx-bassballs.html

The two 10k trim pots. Is it possible to surface mount those like regular control with knobs etc?

If so, can someone kindly give me a detailed explaination of the process, as i have never done it before?

Thank you!
Steve.

You want to be able to control the trimmers from the outside of the box? Why not just use normal pots and wire each lug to the appropriate spot on the board? Most of the schematics on tagboard put wires at the end of each strip, but theres nothing stopping you from placing them in the middle where each trimmer is.

sweet, can I do it just like that?

Well, then do I use 10k linear or audio and I how I know which lug goes to each point the trimmer would have went to?

Sorry for the questions...
Steve.

Yeah man trimpots are just baby potentiometers. They do the same thing, but are obviously not intended for regular use and are small and fragile.

Just take wires from where the three legs of the trimpots are, and take them out to proper pots. Check 'trimpot pins' or something on google to work out the numbering if you're not sure.

The trimpots' topmost pin is 3, middle pin is 2 and lowest pin is 1. See the attached schematic for reference.

Trim pots, if not specified, are linear. BUT that doesn't mean linear is the best type for a panel pot. It's a good place to start though.

make sure you remove the original trimpot or the taper's gonna be all wrong on the new one. Chuck probably meant this, i just take things too literally

Ok this is making weird oscillator type sounds - are you sure its not the opposite pinout using the diagram I am following from the tagboardeffects blog? I mean, looking at my diagram would it be 1 on top, 2 in middle, 3 at bottom?

swapped 1 +3 on the pins and it made no difference. Sounds like a constant oscillator drone, changes pitch as i adjust the two trim pots. Does it matter they are 10K Audios? It must be something else wrong. Siiiigh.
