After receiving my first micro controller I was looking for a simple project to get me going. I found this at the time and I've been meaning to share it here.

It took a little tweaking to get it to work alright with my setup at the time- you may see my comment on the page. I can imagine something like this going a long way with more work. Would you guys be interested in a pedal project with a graphic display? - instead of using a PC as a monitor as the instructable does. It could certainly be done for less than $40-USD.

Essentially it works as a graphing voltmeter. I'm not familiar with scopes but I have many ideas on expanding this project to present to this forum. I've found it useful playing with some LFOs. First thing I did was hook it up the Tremshifter Lfo to see how the waves look. On that note, the triangle setting is more of a sharpened sine (almost a complete triangle). But that's just an example of simple exploration.

Here's a pic I put on the page - Tremshifter LFO (minus 2nd LED after depth pot);

I'll pursue this project for my own use but I'm not sure on the practicality of it's FULL function for the world of stompboxes. It does what I need though. What other functions does a scope serve us here?

Looks neat!  :) The only thing I would add is that for a similar fee these are pretty handy and could be mounted in a pedal...

Certainly not knocking the DIY idea/aspect so continue with that, just posting for awareness really.

Oh man that looks rough. But thanks for sharing!

The costly parts would be the display and the enclosure. I bet I could get it done for less than 30. Just gotta find some decently priced and sized displays...

Ready-to-dazzle bare-board 'scopes are widely available far under $99; I've seen $39. There's a couple open-source projects and a lot of Asian builders on eBay. Some of them have so much sales and feedback that the stuff must work good.

Some may have optional cases or faces to hide the ugly-bits.

I've build a 'scope from a gutted basket-case, and repaired many-many, also have Veleman's first LCD 'scope. But today I'm thinking I'd just go buy a board.

Not that you should stop your experimenting!! It is a very good way to learn a lot about audio, instrumentation, and computing.
