Hi there,
First post here and completely new to pedal building so go easy please.
I managed to pickup a stash of what are supposedly Russian nos germanium transistors.
I know next to nothing about transistors abs would love to know whether they are going to be useful or not. I have the following;
IT308b
MP20A
MP21A
MP35
MP37
MP38A
MP39B
MP41
GT408V

Thanks in advance.

Pay attention to the suffix letter, it generally pertains to the gain range of that model of transistor, though there's no set values that cover all the models (unlike the Japanese convention). The best resource I found was to look up the transistor on Ebay, and find a vendor that also displays the datasheet for that model. The datasheet usually contains the gain spread for the different suffix models.

Also, take the stated gain from the datasheets with a grain of salt. Yes, they tend to be lower leakage than a lot of the Ge transistors that you'll find being sold on Ebay, but the gains tend to be lower than advertised as well, generally by between 10 and 20%. Nonetheless, I've had very good results with Russian transistors in general.

welcome to the forum, Dharkon. here is another thread on the subject:

also, head over to geofex.com, look for the technology of the fuzz face. we've all read it, many times over. it will answer some questions before you even arks them.

[thanks for that link, digi, I haven't seen that page before.]
