well made a trip to local radio shack, ive noticed they have been paying alot of attention to parts selection lately but i was surprised to find 2 1n34a pack of germanium diodes for 2.99$. Any one ever bought/or even known that they carried these lately? I know back in the day they supposedly had huge selection, but considering 2 months ago i couldnt even get some 10k resistors there just was pretty suprised. And also at price, seems like normally they are notoriously over priced, i mean 3 bucks for 2 100nf greenies is pretty crazy, when i bought 50 for same price not long ago online with free shipping.

If they're carrying 'good stuff' like that, then you're lucky...most don't, in my experience. However, my LOCAL RS does have some stuff...the owner is a HAM guy :)   So, you can find ONE pack of 34A's, some 555s, the odd MPF102 and LM317s etc.    You do have to pay, as you noted, ha ha  :)
Fast access has its price...

I buy my ferric chloride solution and perf from RS. my local rs has a few odds and ends now and then . I have one of those red vacuum balls and love it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I bought a few of their over sized pots not too long ago and they seem really well made with silk smooth rotation although the were 2.00 per unit but they are for me so money was no object for them haha

I don't really bash my RS. They don't overprice so badly and they have some odd stuff in stock. Like AC215 germanium transistors. I couldn't even find a datasheet to them...
...and have a marvelous day.

yeah i love radioshack, and yea they cost more but it cost more to have store and emplpyees and all that goes along with it. I buy my ferric chloride from there, its priced really good. you cant really get it much cheaper online that ive found. have like every value of there 24mm pots, and also the 10k auido on with spst switch built in. There knobs are high quality, and like 3 bucks for a 4 pack of those smaller black with silver middle ones, which is like same price as small bear, also 15 pack of npn trannies 2n2222, 2n3904 2n4401, and the same but pnps for like 3 bucks. Got me one of those red bulbs, also the metal solder sucker. I just discovered 62/38/2% silver solder which seems superior to the standard 60/40 stuff. have all there op amps. the 741 made a really nice sounding DOD 250 (yellow) , lm386 for my noisey cricket, got a tl082 havent used yet, any way tons of decent stuff. Anyway i talked to one of the regional managers one day and they have changed there buisness plan partially back to more of the componenet/DIY stuff. Its funny though there employees really dont know much about technology, i swear everytime im in there i overhear someone coming in wanting something computer related, and they say no sorry we cant help you, i always step in and say well this would work. lol yesterday i "sold" a guy a 30$ network switch, i told the guy man yall shlould give me some kinda discount card with all the stuff ive helped yall sell lol. any way suggestions for use of the 4 1n43a diodes i just got?

Well I had a RS around the corner from my house, but it closed.  :(  They were a good source for solder and had recently started stocking Deoxit D5 at a reasonable price.  Now the closest one is across town maybe 30 minutes away.  Bummer.
