I really wanted to build this

i have some 9 v zeners, is there any sub for 6.8 zener? Would a 500k pot and 2.2m resistors work, thats just a guess...and ive read secret life of pots. If i post a question ive done research and am at a point where i just have no idea and needing help. Any replies appreciated.

The simplest way is to order a 6.8V zener.

Next simpler is to take a batch of ordinary silicon transistors and set them up with a 9V battery and a 470R to 1K resistor in series with the base-emitter and measure the voltage you get. One way, you get about 0.6V, the forward voltage. The other way, you get 5.2 to 8V, depending on the transistor. This will vary by transistor to transistor. You **might** find one that's between 6.5 and 7. Take anything in that range.

Cut off the collector lead to avoid confusion and stick it into the circuit. Probably work just fine. I can't say for sure because I didn't go look up the schematic and you didn't provide a link.

Next simpler is to get an LM431 and calculate the proper resistances to program it to be the right zener voltage. It can be a "zener" between under 2V up to about 28V IIRC.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Would have been a LOT easier with an actual schematic.

In *this* case, if you need it *today*, leave out the Zener. You supposed to have 0 to 3.5V selectable with the Depth pot. Without Zener you get 0 to 4.4V selectable, and varying with battery health, so you won't use the full pot range and you will re-trim as the battery fades.

It will work in a pinch. Possibly fine.

This is NOT true of most Zener applications.

sry i just posted the layout i was gonna use. Here is the schematic from the guy who did the layout i think. Thanks for replies. I didnt have to have it today i just really wanted to have it tommorow for my birthday, didnt think much when i clicked on layout bc i never heard a vibrato pedal that really impressed me, but from the videos on youtube of the guy who makes the production version of this pedal it sounded pretty awesome. Ill just went ahead and made an order. Thanks guys for replies, i wanted to try the tranny thing just didnt have the time today.
