DPDT conundrum

I am wondering if it is possible to wire a DPDT switch together with a potentiometer so that a resistor is switched in to EITHER lug 1 or 3. Obviously 3 wires goes from the pot to the PCB, but I'm not looking to do anything with the middle wire/lug.

I've tried to visualize how to do this, but I can't seem to find a way. I could use 2 DPDT switches, but I keep thinking that there must be a simpler/more elegant/cleverer way of doing it...

Not sure I understand but like this?

This is only to choose between resistor on 1 or 3.
If you need all the options "No resistor", "Resistor only on 1" "Resistor only on 3" options I would go with a rotary switch instead.

Yes, that's it, so then I assume it is OK to have 1 leg of the resistor still connected when it's not active (I was not sure it was OK to have "loose wires" like that in a circuit)?

This should work

Here's an alternative wiring, shorting the resistors with the switches instead of switching them in/out:
