I know I might be asking only uk users
Been looking for parts uk based for quick delivery but I seem to spend ages searching for components, to see what I'm trying to explain look at this

http://uk.farnell.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?catalogId=15001&langId=44&storeId=10151&gs=true&st=2n5457

Searched for 2n5457, this is what I get non actually say 2n5457 and there are 3 options priced at
£0.69 £0.12 £0.23 each are any of them what I want and why such a difference in price.

Shame it's so confusing as there are next day delivery inc Saturday

None of these is a 2N5457.  Farnell's "suggested replacements" may or may not be suitable.  Depends what you want it for and what characteristics are important in your circuit.  You may want to look at the respective datasheets to see how "close" (whatever that means) any of these substitutes is.

Bitsbox has a real 2N5457 here.

Ohm's Law - much like Coles Law, but with less cabbage...

Vitrolin

i am afraid they have been discontinued, and therefore are difficault o obtain through farnell, RS, Mouser or similar.
Small suppliers often have discontinued components longer time.
so google is your friend the search" 2N5457 uk" gave me following result:
http://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/2N5457_NChannel_JFET/p847124_14019505.aspx

or find a similar component, contrary to widespread belief components aren't magic.
