How are these things even called?





Are these sold anywhere? Any experience/info/ideas on diy-ing this stuff?

They look like handles, only repurposed.

Look at kitchen cabinet hardware if want something cheap.

And, search for "rack handles" too.  I think that is the closest you'll get to a standard name for these.  http://www.budind.com/handles.php

They actually are carrying handles (here serving as knob protection bars) and you can find them as spare parts for almost any metal enclosure ( i.e. cabinets for bentchtop power supplies..)

I would imagine there are many varieties available, as sold by kitchen hardware and cabinetry places, under the name "drawer pulls" or drawer handles.

I'd add "drawer pull handles" to what Mark said. also cabinet handles. for really cheap option, look for U bolts or U shackles in the hardware shop.

Consider getting something fairly robust, perhaps adding washers on both sides -- you can get square U-bolts at a hardware shop, with a good 6 or 8 mm shaft. My experience with drawer handles is that the screws are not so strong.

I wanted to carry, but the prices were not realistic. I found the ones that I now stock by fishing in home furnishings catalogs for drawer pulls. Now that I know that they will sell, I'll look for them in 4" and that shorter size in the pic. Is that 2" center-to-center? The suggestion of including washers is good...I can manage that.
