Anyone had a play with this chip? Over a decade old, but without much mention. The spectrum might not be suited perfectly for guitar, but for keys, synth, maybe even bass, who knows. Maybe the control is too limited.

I don't think I'd use it for eq jobs, but...
Have the select pins driven by a counter, drive the counter from a zero crossing detector, Eq changes through a cycle.
I think a lot of us are wary of using special function IC's - they have habit of going obsolete just as you've learned to love them.
I've been hurt that way before you know...

Interesting.  Can't figure out what the "3D" effect is from the app notes though.

App notes don't explain "3D"  but often it is a phase relationship between left & right channels combined with frequency response (sometimes as simple as a different frequency response between left and right) that give an illusion that different parts of the sound are coming from locations in 3-D space.

My gut reaction is it's probably a gimmick, but if they did their homework well it can create a nice effect on wide-band audio (recorded music).  My guess is 3-D wouldn't do much for guitar except for the inherent frequency response they publish (which is on the datasheet).  The frequency response graph just doesn't give phase or group delay information per channel, which would be necessary to know more exactly what "3-D" does other than adding a little gain and bass boost.
