Sigh...I'd like to say bad words about center negative jack wiring....

And how I just realized that I have 40 9v jacks that I can't use because they ground the barrel to the chassis.

Shit. At least they were cheap. Lol.

Guess I need to look into making a bunch of reverse polarity pedals.

They might be able to be isolated using a rubber grommet...I've done so on a couple of occasions.

Just build 40 positive ground PNP pedals.  20 Fuzz Faces, 13 Tonebenders, and 7 Rangemasters.

You can use them.

If you go the shoulder washer route, it can't be very thick. Our diecast hammond type enclosures are about as thick as those metal jacks have thread for. Steve at Small Bear got special, long bushing metal jacks, for this exact scenario, to add rubber shoulder washers, only to find the regular 2.1mm adapter plugs don't reach deep enough into the jack to meet the contact reliably.

Use fiber shoulder washers (not rubber), and you can sand them thinner if necessary.

The easiest solution is to sell them to someone who uses that type of jack socket and buy the correct ones you want, or keep them for some other pedal type. I use this type or similar socket in a centre positive 12v pedal  that I build but have plenty at the moment.

I've just cut the adapter's wire, stripped the ends, flipped the connection, slipped heatshrink on, soldered, heatshrunk, and wrapped with electrical tape for strength

boom, proper polarity in like 10 minutes

Yeah, I'd considered insulating it, but as was mentioned, these have almost no excess thread. It would have to be a very thin washer.

Modifying the power cords means that they would be pedal specific.

Fortunately, tayda makes it a relatively inexpensive mistake. And now I know. :)

Thanks.
