What does the  "CV" mean in these 3 terminal regulators?  I've tried looking this up... it keeps leading back to a generic data sheet for 3 terminal regulators (by ST)... I can find information on the "C" suffix but not  "CV".

Maybe I'm wrong but I think V refers to TO-220 single gauge style..
"I'm getting older while being taught all the time" Solon the Athenian..
"I don't mind  being taught all the time but I do mind a lot getting old" Antonis the Thessalonian..

Did you check the datasheet? It has all the information.
The "C" designation is a lower tolerance part than the "A" designation. For example the output voltage tolerance of the A part is 8.65-9.35VDC, vs 8.55-9.45VDC for the C part.

The "V" designation indicates the TO-220 package. DT-TR indicates DPAK, D2T-TR indicates D2PAK, P indicates TO-220FP plastic package.

(What Phoenix said-) Did you read that?

(Yes, 55 pages does seem excessive....)

"C" is the Cheap grade with 4% output tolerance. ("A" would be 2% tolerance.)

"V" is a TO-220 package. (Single gauge; whutever that is.)

....and there it is. Thank you!  Lesson learned.. don't stop reading the data sheet at the mechanical drawings  :icon_redface:
