Rich, do you have a 555 timer chip? I bet if you throw this on the breadboard and aim one of your optical LFO gadgets at this you would get a gnarly siren.

C3 can probably be anything from 100n to 100u (originally 200nF)
Out can probably go to a A100K volume pot (originally straight to 8ohm speaker)

edit: I just saw a vid for a dub siren and noticed he controls it manually with a pot.
So I guess the LDR could be replaced with a 500k-1M pot or a pot with a series resistor of selected value for the desired effect

I've been chewing on this for a while. (more than 2 weeks Duck.)

Heres the kind of thing I'd like. Apparently an NJD clone. (apparently a clone of something else.)

I tried serching a popular search engine and came up with a couple of things That I consider might be a good starting point.

So I went ahead and ordered a few cd40106 and some 555 timers.

Then I search for the NJD. Bingo

this popped up in a forum post in cyberland.

So Since I need some help here. I'm hoping you guys can help me build my first synth.
Gulp Is that off topic here......

As much funtionality as possible.

I'm not to aufait with what's going on in the last posted. NJD with BJT.
Dual lfo?

Any clues as to how it works would be a good place to start.
Thanks In advance
Rich

That thing is awesome! Now I have to find a way to work that into the worship songs at church - should go over well I would think - eh?

I'll say Gord. If your church is in downtown Kingston.

I built this one a long time ago. I remember it being somewhat wonky, but that could have just been my build. I was a total noob at the time.

much as I love the dub, the sirens are the part I hate most about 'mixes'. having said that, that NJD in the vid sounds exactly like what was playing on the radio at the time, and quite good. simple enough if you can follow those lines.

Yer that's just it though. I can build a beeper.

But like Oliver I want more.
Something to waggle the beep.
Make it do funny stuff. I havent ruled out op amps or 555 or hex inverters yet (the chips havent arrived yet)

But that bloody njd switching............

I've been trying to draw a schematic for a stripped down version just to see if i can get it to work on the breadboard. But I keep going away from that and finding something else to do. Hmmm

If i recall right from what i can gather the njd is a twin set of astable oscillators. That right?

I'm looking forward to the weekend. Grandson No2 (8yr old) Is spending the day with his old pops and we are going to try to find time to dive into and make a beeper on the electronics set I got for him and I.
And It's still ONLY 'kin wednesday..
