Compressor clipping, volume drop?

Hi everyone,
I built an Aion compressor, and everything works fine. I'm just experiencing some clipping when I use it. It is mild, but enough to make a clean signal 'not clean' if you get what I'm saying. Could this be because of a bad IC? something shorting out?

Welp it looks like this is apparently a common issue with Ross comps. Is there anything I can do to solve this?

The answer to that question is always "yes." I just don't conveniently know the "how" part at the moment.  :icon_razz:

1)This PCB has two 1K resistors in place of the original's 2K input trimmer. Could I reduce the input level by increasing these two resistors?
2) the Clipping doesn't happen when using my strat with lower output pickups. When using humbuckers, the Clipping is very pronounced. The PCB has a 200K trimmer to control the input level, but the range of control is basically Lots of Clipping to Less but still a Lot of Clipping. Will increasing this trimmer change the response?

The input trimmer would seem to be the best place to look.  But, first, can you eliminate the distortion by simply turning down your guitar volume?

You're talking about the Aurora, right? https://www.dropbox.com/s/d7m5f9rbe6d68f2/aion-aurora-ross-compressor-documentation.pdf?dl=1

Yes, the Aurora compressor. The guitar volume thing works, but I'd rather not have to rely on the guitar volume to clean it up. I figured out that RX1 and RX2 are the 1K resistors. How would I wire up a 2K (I think?) trimpot across RX1 and RX2?

Sorry, I meant the 200k input level trimmer, not the 2k trimmer.  A 2k trimmer won't help your problem.

Ah my bad. What could be possible fixes for the input trimmer? Higher value? Replace it for a different 200K trimmer?

Higher value would extend the attenuation range a bit.  Not sure how much additional attenuation you need though.

hmm thanks, I'll try a 250K and see how it affects the situation. :)
