Can I put an vibracastor LFO on a colorsound wah and get an autowah? (Not the responding to to picking type just the constant moving type) I assume it wouldn't working without some adjustment just wanted to know from someone with more brains an me if this is not a terrible idea.

Kipper4

Links to some schematics would help. Thanks.

Of course, sorry...

This is the colour sound wah

This is the vibracastor

The idea would be to replace VR1 in the colorsound with the Vibra LFO (everything from the 8pin onwards)

I dont think you will need the diode.
you could also try leaving out R8.

do a forum search for PSO phase shift oscillator.

What you want to do is very close to the crying time on madbeans.

to the original method, I'd say "no". the wah wants a varying resistance to ground, the lfo has a pot dividing the lfo output voltage.

if'n you drive a led with the osc (there are ways) and replace the wah pot to ground with an ldr, and shine the led at it, you will have some degree of wah auto.

What you whant is the ROG Phozer:

Tim Escobedo's Idiot Wah + LFO from the EA Tremolo  :)
To you, buffered bypass sucks tone.
To me, it sucks my balls.

I did something along these lines years ago in a contest on "the other forum" I used Tim Escobedo's Ghost Dance circuit and an LFO that flashed a lamp. (I works with an LED, but I liked the lamp for the really slow settings)

Thanks all question answered. Was hoping not to have to use a vactrol or do the ldr led matching.

Kipper4

You shouldnt need to do any matching.
just pick a 3mm or 5mm red diffuse led a 500k dark photoresistor.
adjust the currant limiting resistor for the led
If your not getting the results you want. To a point you can put a parallel resistor on the ldr.

ahhh, but, kipper, he then has the toe-down/heel-down question to answer - led bright going to dark, or led dark going to light. unless he just goes whole hog, full treadle.

Kipper4

True that.
Make it optional and put the led on a dpdt for up/down led.
I'll do a drawing if needs be.
