how do i use a positive ground pedal with a negative ground pedal??

Overall you've got it.

One small point- the power for the LEDs can come directly from the supply, before the Schottky diode. The LEDs typically will draw the most current in our circuits, so if you take the power after the filtering, then you are increasing the load on the Schottky and on the 47R. There will be a larger drop across the resistor because of the increased current, resulting in less voltage available to the circuit. It doesn't matter if reverse power is applied to the LEDs, they're diodes and block reverse voltage.

why not just use a charge pump? put 'em both in the same enclosure, run the pnp at -9v and the npn at 9v, ground is the middle point between neg and pos potential, right?
