Haven't posted in a while due to some personal things going on, and the fact that I've got a stack of vero boards that never seem to get done.

Quick question:  does anyone make/sell BLACK nylon/plastic washers for 3PDT stomp switches? I've seen clear ones, and I'm getting tired of white.

I'm in the US.
That's a link to a toggle switch, though.

I'm talking about the white plastic washer that you always find on 3PDT stomp switches: I want to know if anyone makes a BLACK washer.

I used to really be with it!  That is, until they changed what "it" is.  Now, I can't find it.  And, I'm scared!  --  Homer Simpson's dad

Another alternative - Small Bear has shiny chrome ones (they go on top of the white one): http://www.smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/flat-washer-for-stomp-switches/. They come free with their switches (less than 10 pieces).

Jeez Louise guys!! Work??? Really??? I spent a total of 35 seconds on Google to find this. I shit you not. What the shit counts as "work" nowadays? Breathing? Or does someone from Google actually have to come to your home to type in the words "3pdt washers black" for you?

Looks to be the same dimensions as the white one I have here.

Now your talking! Great price too, you're not paying that bootique mark up. Good find. :icon_cool:

Hey, 35 seconds is AAAGGGGEEEEESSSS. I've got a social-media-affected attention span of about 1/8th of that. No way I'd manage to stay focussed for the full 35 seconds required. ;)

Question, do the nylon washers do anything, mechanically, that a metal washer doesn't? Or is it just a different look?

GGBB

Shock absorption. Possibly electrical insulation if you devise a way to insulate the rest of the switch from the enclosure and actually have a purpose for doing that.

I generally don't mention this but the plastic washers are intended to be mechanical parts on the >>>inside<<<.
But putting them on the outside has been common ever since home made pedals.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

And if you take a torch to the metal washers they become even better looking. Best to torch them before mounting them.

Please elaborate! Inquiring minds want to know.

I always chuck the plastic ones and use metal.  I like to torque the nut down enough that the switch won't work loose and spin.  The platic washers seem to prevent that level of torque.  Star washer inside, flat washer outside.  The rubber feet on the bottom can handle shock absorption, if that's really even a concern.

It's just a Mechanical Engeneering Design Principle..

Any locking washer is placed in direct contact with the securing item - which should be the most prone to loose..
(meaning than metal "star" washer should be placed on nut side, hence plastic washer should be placed underneath the enclosure..)

unless, maybe, it's placed on the top of the enclosure under the lock washer?  :icon_wink:
