PT-80...stymied again!

I got the PT-80 up and running a couple weeks ago and since then, decided to take it out the box and give it a nice paint job. So, after giving it a beautiful outside, I put the circuit back in and fire it up.
Well, something went wrong, because the delays are weak and I don't get many repeats. Turning up the repeats should eventually erupt into feedback city, but it doesn't anymore.
When I had it in the box, it seemed to work a bit when I moved the circuit board around a bit in the box, I undid the footswitch and the LED so I could bend the board back, still connected to the pots and jacks. It doesn't do that anymore and now I'm testing it with everything completely out of the box.
I checked the wiring on the pots with a meter to make sure that a connection didn't go bad while taking the guts out, but that's not it. I thought that was it at first because the effect seemed to work when I moved the circuit board, but I tested continuity on all the connections. I double checked all the solder joints, I did a very good job on this circuit, one of the neatest jobs I've done.
I'm frustrated at this point and will try it again later with the audio probe, but I'm hanging this thing up for now to try again fresh tomorrow.
All suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

A fresh battery?

Hoping it's that simple

I wish that were it, but it runs off an 18V power supply.
For some reason, I think the expander part of the compander circuit isn't feeding a hot enough signal.
When I get home from work, I'll try it out with the audio probe. I was just hoping it'd be something simple.

I had almost the same problem yesterday: the repeat level is ok and it sound perfect, but i get only one repetition.
did anyone experienced this? should i check only the pots wiring?
i actually swapped all the ic but nothing changed (except for the fact that sounded very good with tl072 and even better with a 5532).
i tryed the pt2399 on the rebote and they are working. don't know about my two sa571.
