My Stomp LFO chips arrived this morning. WOW! These things are incredible, thank you Tom, stellar work. Popped it into a phase 90 i have on the breadboard at it worked straight off the bat. All the waveshapes are great, lots of interesting stuff. It even negates the bias trim, seems to be happy set anywhere.
Still needs some tweaking but i was so excited by it i had to share.

Sorry there's no video but audio clip here:

First settings is 'Random Levels', then 'Random Slops' then i stopped playing attention becomes i wanted to fiddle with it so much so it's an assortment of the remaining wave shapes

How did you connect the lfo to the p90.
Series resistor, voltage divider?
Can you show us a diagram please.
Sounds good Patrick.

Do me a favour while you have it on the breader and try some different fets too. Matched or not.

Originally i just had the LFO going into a 1M into middle of 500k bias pot but i just added in the 3M3 which is on most phase90 schems and it sounds a lot nicer. Smooths it out a lot and gets rid of some of the ticking when the lfo is in full swing. I've ommited the depth and offset pots.

I've only got some 5458s which i'll chuck in there now

patrick398

Ah i'm out of 4548s. Don't think i have anything else i can try, sorry Kipper!
Also, i should mention that including the 3M3 the bias pot is contributing again. I need to play with it more but i think it's proving useful fine tuning the phase when changing between waveforms

I would wager both the depth and offset are both worth breadboarding too.
Not all the waveforms may sound good in a phaser setting (in the classic sense)
But I found it certainly made it much more interesting.
Some of the waveform edges can make it sound more like a trem.
I'm have the same effect in the Fever Pitch project I'm finding my way working around the Stomp LFO.
Many great replacement alternatives.
Imagine a EA tremolo with random waves.

Funnily enough i was just coming back here to say that the depth pot is definitely worth having! Can take away some of the harshness on some settings. It's made this phase 90 sound a billion times better, even with a normal triangle wave. I was pretty underwhelmed by the stock circuit, this has taken it to a new level. I'll try again with the offset, i couldn't hear a huge amount of difference so i might get it up on the scope so i can see what it's doing.
Once this is finished i want to try the pt2399 delay you posted. I might even get rid of the psycho lfo in the hyper light and use one of these...i want to put it in everything!

Kipper4

If you want to get closer to hearing what the offset pot does try a switch going to either +5v or gnd.
Don't forget the 10k series R.

Hyper light being the ring mod.

Good idea, i'll try that with fresh ears tomorrow. Yeah hyper light is the ring mod, sounds good at the moment but it's hard to resist the shear flexibility of this chip.
Incidentally, are you just using a 10k pot for the waveform CV? I was thinking earlier about measuring the R for each setting and trying to hook it up to a rotary switch, would make it a bit more exact

Excellent thanks Rich, will hook it up tomorrow. I'm having a bit of trouble with the lower frequencies of the phase at the moment, it can get a bit boom and distorted at the lower end of the sweep so i think i may need to tinker with something in the phase circuit
