Hey there - I'm just about ready to begin my boss DD3 mod and rehouse project. The final 2 things in need some advice is:

1. How to replace the pcb mounted dc jack with a panel mounted jack??? I'm guessing I remove the pcb jack and then wire the panel mounted jack to where the mounted jack was??

2. Replacing the boss LED with a surface panel mounted LED?

Advice would really be appreciated. Hoping to start this on the weekend!!

Cheers

You could leave the panel power jack on and tack wires onto the bottom pads. IIRC the solder pads are pretty large and you might be able to get a good enough connection. The right way to do it is remove the jack, but to me that's a huge pain in the buns.

LED should look like a regular LED, can you use the one already there?

If you have space, use a little cord with a 90 degrees DC plug attached to the original jack, with the panel jack on the other end.
Kirk Hammet invented the Burst Box.

If the original DC jack is switched, and you want to retain the option of using a battery, then I think you need to remove the original jack and wire the new (switched) panel-mount jack to the appropriate pads.  If you don't want the battery option, you'd still be relying on the switch contact in the original jack, which may oxidize and go flaky, so I'd remove the original DC jack either way.

Yes.

take old led out, solder two wires to the new LED. Solder those wires to the 2 PADs on the pcb that connected to the old LED

Hey.. thanks heaps everyone! This was the last bit of info I needed before embarking on this project. I'll be working on this across the week.. I'm planning on documenting the process so will post a detailed post soon.

Cheers!

Wish you a good work.

By the way, why are you rehousing a DD3 pedal?

The Boss case is quite good and looks nice also

Tome

Planning on making a bunch of mods which will include 4 switches, additional knob and momentary switch. I'm certain it won't fit in a boss enclosure.

Nice one, I love the DD3 pedal.

What mods are you performing?

Tome

Hey - So, attached is what I'm attempting to achieve.. although things haven't gone totally to plan.

The hi cut (capacitors), low cut (resistors), analog switches (capacitors) work.

Issues: The lofi (diodes) switch isn't doing anything. The pot is behaving like a Level switch. The 'self oscillation momentary switch isn't self oscillating.

Any ideas would be very welcome!!

Cheers
