Hi All,

This is my first post here. I came across this board while researching about schematics I can try. I am trying to build a practice amp on a wooden cabinet. Have a ready made TDA2030 power amp board and 12v power supply.

I was experimenting on the preamps and came across Ruby and a few other circuits. First I tried Ruby - here is the video and I feel I can still better the tone, looking for suggestions.

Then I tried a simpler preamp using uA741. The schematic is from https://www.instructables.com/id/10-WATT-PORTABLE-GUITAR-AMP-WITH-DISTORTION/ and my build can be seen at this video

You'll forgive my prying, but your handle piques my interest.  Does it refer to South Asian or Native American heritage?  And if the former, are you situated in the South Asian subcontinent?  I ask, because we have members from all over the world, here, and it is always worth knowing what sorts of resources people have (or don't have) access to locally, in service of making reasonable suggestions to them, when they run into issues.  If the person has no local access to components or other useful resources, then the nature of the "help" changes.

Having said that, welcome on board.  Make sure your TDA2030 amplifier supply is able to provide enough current.  There are much better op-amps than the 741, but sometimes "weaknesses" in an op-amp provide the tone one is looking for.

I served as a sort of "shadow supervisor" for an upstanding Maharashtrian guy in Mumbai doing his doctorate in economics.  We corresponded quite a bit over the last decade and a half, and I think one of the most excited notes I ever got from him was after he went to see Metallica!

So I'm curious.  Where do you source your parts from?  Is there such a thing as a local distributor where you are, or do you order from Tayda and Futurlec, like so many here?

Some of the components (such as J201 / MPF102) are bought from Aliexpress as I never found them locally. One of the reasons could be that they are discontinued by manufacturers.. There could be better alternatives, but I wanted to try something which has been tested multiple times by others before moving up. Other components (caps, resistors, common ICs) are locally available.

Hi All,

its been a while I posted this thread.
I managed build an amp enclosure , pics here - https://in.pinterest.com/ramkumar_kr/guitar-amp-build/

I used the Tillman preamp with the TDA2030 power amp. Everything powered by a 12v , 2A supply. I was not too happy with the preamp as there is unwanted noise.

Any suggestion for a better preamp? I couldn't locate a simple TL072 preamp schematic, I might still add in the LM741 preamp I had (video above), but still checking what is a decent preamp I can build.
