EH MemoryMan questions

Hey Pedalfiends,

I have been looking at the EH Deluxe MemoryMan schematic from Stellan's site, and noticed that the transistor for the level indicator LED is depicted as an NPN, but labeled as a 2N5087 (PNP).  Does anyone have an idea which is correct?  I suspect that the transistor is just drawn wrong, and the 2N5087 label is correct.

Also, the negative regulated power supply is new to me.  Should I just look at this the same way as something like an PNP fuzzface?

Has anyone attempted this build?  I am not in a hurry to do so, but this has got my attention, and I would like to chew on it for a while.  I am trying to understand how this modulation stuff works, since they are my favorite type of effect.

I probably won't be building anything for a few months, as all of my free time is spent on the 'new' house.  (We bought the not as nice house, in the nicest neighborhood.)  I just moved back to civilization (S. metro Atlanta), after being in the mountains of N. Georgia for two years.  It is nice to be able to go out after 6:00 at night, and find that nearly everything is open.  That and we have a good Chinese restaurant minutes from the house!

Thanks all,

Derek

Spare yourself the heartache.  Build Scott Swartz's AD3208 or PT-80.  They both have tested layouts, will likely not sound al that much different from a Memory Man in either tone or delay time, and use parts you can actually find at a decent price.  The MM Deluxe *does* have a chorus/vibrato option, but then you can't have that and echo at the same time, so why not build a delay AND a chorus, for what will liekly be the same overall price (MN3005's are expensive)?

Congrats on the house.  We bought our first one last year, and even though I have a workbench the entire length of the garage with an office off it and additional storage area, I suspect I'd have a lot more pedals built if we were still in an apartment.  Houses are like that.

Thanks for the info Mark!

I had no idea that the chorus and echo were not useable at the same time.   It looked pretty cool, but was pretty intimidating to think about getting to a layout.  The Tonepad Small Clone with the updated mods seems like a better choice.  Charlie Barth's soundclips with his extreme mods sound too cool.  But, like I said I won't be unpacking my stuff until the house is in better order.

This is our third house since getting married five years ago.  Each one was a step up, but it seems like as soon as we get the house renovated and to our liking, we move again (job related).  This time, hopefully we will stay put for a nice long while.  Peachtree City is a great place to live and raise a child.
