Super Fuzz super loud

I built a super fuzz clone (Rift pcb from Aion Electronics) and all is well except it just strikes me as ridiculously loud. I measured all the transistors (2N3904, all 190 hFE give or take) to make sure they were in range but with the volume pot at ~20% it's still louder than my factory big muff at 100%. Maybe this is normal?

The last time i played through superfuzz, it was loud. Aion version has clipping switch, does flipping the switch make a difference in volume? Assuming that everything works as it should, 100k resistor before or after the volume pot should help to tame it down. And welcome to the forum.

It's always easier to make things quiet than to make them loud, at least in guitar pedals and hiss/hum.

In response to the questions in the forum - PCB Layout for Musical Effects is available from The Book Patch. Search "PCB Layout" and it ought to appear.

Ah just a dumb mistake on my part, thanks Danich for getting me thinking about it. If you're gonna leave out the extra switch and diodes on Aion's circuit, make sure to solder a bridge between clip positions 2 and 3 lol. Sounds even better now that the main clipping diodes are connected!
