question for supatrem owners

What does the hard/soft switch actually do on a supatrem?   I've watched several reviews on youtube that give differing explanations.  Some say it changes the waveform, others say it just basically bypasses the depth pot/cuts the depth in half.

Does anyone have one to confirm?
