Whammy (5th Gen) - Mod Exp-Out or No Exp at all

Hi everybody !

I have a Whammy 5th controlled by midi (Boss ES-8) and that's great ! I rarely use the expression pedal built in to control My Whammy.
Therefore I convinced myself to :
- Use it for other purposes such as an Expression Pedal for my ES-8
- Or completely remove the Exp to reduce size, and mount the whammy under my pedal board

For now I only know two things :
- Basic wiring for Exp pedal
- Whammy EXP is made of a surface mounted LDR and a moving led (attached to the pedal)

1st Question : Can I just remove the pedal without risking any side effects from the LDR not being paired with the LED ?
2nd Question : How can I mod the circuitry to add a switchable 'Exp out' ?
