Klon loud pop

Hi there !

I just built a Klon rev 2 as per http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/2014/05/klon-centaur-with-optional-bass-control.html .

It sounds great , no problem in that respect, however I have an awfully loud pop when switching on or off. Sound even goes off for a milisecond. Worst case I have experienced

- I added 2M2 pulldown resistors at both the input and the output, to no avail.

- I have removed the LED just to make sure in case this was the reason for the noise.... still loud pop without the LED in the circuit.

- I have measured the DC voltage at the output and I have 0,7V with the effect on and 1.5V with the effect off (the Klon is NOT true bypass, so even with the effect disengaged, signal still goes through the buffer section)

Any idea why this could happen ? Thanks in advance !

I keep this page bookmarked so if i ever have a switch pop i can work my way through and eliminate them...as you have been doing. There's 6 possible causes according to AMZ

IMHO, something happens with NEXT effect Input capacitor..
(Centaur OUT cap is grounded via 10k pot & Buffer coupling cap is also grounded via 100k resistor..)
"I'm getting older while being taught all the time" Solon the Athenian..
"I don't mind  being taught all the time but I do mind a lot getting old" Antonis the Thessalonian..

Ok...... As you know the Klon is not a true bypass pedal....... so I installed the pulldown resistor right where it switches at the output (right before R27 as per Martin Chittum's schematic)

I tried 1M and 2M2. It doesn't seem to be very different. Pop is reduced from totally unbearable to still audible.

Any way to calculate the value ? or is there anything else I can do ?

Thanks !!

One question: Are you testing it alone with no other pedals between guitar and amp? Antonis is asking this, whether you are experiencing "phantom pop" or "Pedal vertriloquism."

Xavier

I have other pedals around (Boss, so all buffered)

The pop is still considerable....to the point I can't really use it :( . Not sure what else can I do.

Those voltages make me think there is a broken ground connection somewhere....  Very strange.

Could you post some pics?

you want to disconnect all the other pedals, all of them, as it may be the buffer in a pedal up or down stream causing the problem, as idy suggests.

JUST guitar, klon-ish, amp.
