Here's a fun game!

Dear all,

Firstly, let me know if this frivolous post sits better in another section of the forum. I thought you might enjoy this bit of fun...

As I engaged with the fine folk on this forum to mend an old pedal, I realised something that I had never consciously noticed before. Until my latest acquisition I had 7 effects pedals, each of which was made IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY!

Has anyone else has got a pedal board/collection where each stompbox has a unique nation of manufacture? I wonder what the chances of this happening are...

How would you like to take part in a little quiz? Can you get the country of manufacture of my 7 original pedals?!

I'll start you off with a couple of clues.

I have acquired my stompboxes mostly by chance, where someone has given me a pedal or it's turned up in my collection a bit randomly (just to reassure you, I've not stolen any!). This means there's no favourite makers (only one manufacturer is represented more than once) and a variety of ages. The only one I bought was an Ebay purchase (£12 with a load of other guitar stuff). There's one bought new (my son purchased it, and it's living temporarily on my board).

How's that to start off with? Let me know if you want some more clues. To enter post the names of 7 countries! The prize for the closest or the one who gets it first is the admiration of your fellow stompers (or me at least!). Closing date for applications: when someone gets it or when we lose enthusiasm for this thread, whichever happens soonest.

Good luck!

And they're off to a flyer!

EBK notches up a cool 4.

Estonia, Djibouti, Luxembourg, Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, Yemen, Kyrgyzstan.

A marvellous answer from someone who is picking random countries willy-nilly. One of the countries may not be as far away from one of the right answers as willienillie thinks...

Sadly I can't award any points (this is a serious sport with rules, you know) but this one gets a prize for style...

Brazil

Edit:  One of the two that Duck missed is surely Taiwan (Boss).

anotherjim

I would put UK made in the low probability pool. Ukraine or Croatia stand more chance.
Italy might sneak one in if it's a vintage wah.

Fancy Lime

USA
China
Japan
Malaysia
Korea
Russia
Brazil

Strictly based on the clues we got so far.

has this comment been passed fit by the nba? nra? nsa?

well now, I hear tell australia is quite close to PNG, and that there are pedals made there. I had taiwan but had to remove it. so australia and russia for malaysia and, erm, one of the other wrong ones.

we still need to see the colour of those sausages you mentioned.

hamandles

Well, let's catch up a bit.

Andy - a strong effort - 4 correct. Good work. Still duck's original effort leading the field.

Maybe time for for some clues based on your guesses. (Comments in brackets not clues!)

duck_arse:
Let's just say that your substitutions - Oz and Russia for Malaysia and "one of the other wrong ones" - don't result in any more correct guesses. Nice try.
(Did I say sausages? Did anyone else hear me say sausages?)

anotherjim:
1. What's the name of this forum, again?
2. One of the pedals IS a vintage wah - does 90s counts as vintage? it would if it was on ebay! - but it's not Italian.

willienillie:
You chose the wrong country that was close-ish, but you do impart some sound wisdom...

That's your lot for now... (are we having fun yet?)

Yeah but who buys them?

We don't know where you live, but apparently UK.

So we have for damn near sure:  UK, USA, Japan, China, Taiwan

MAYBE Malaysia or Korea

and NOT Russia, Brazil, Mexico, or Australia...

Something close to Luxembourg?

EBK

Guessing a second time.  Also guessing that I still only have 4 correct.  :icon_razz:

USA, Japan, China, Germany, UK, Sweden, France

I reckon there's a Denmark in there somewhere

hamandles

Welcome back to the game, EBK. You are completely correct ............. in that you still only have 4 correct!

We have a new runner. Welcome, stallik! Sadly you fell at the first hurdle...

willienillie just gets a nose in front of duck... 5 correct and some plausible further options/lines of enquiry. Nice one. We're not far away...

There's one country that no-one has mentioned. I thought this might be the most tricky one.

Fancy Lime

Hmmm...

based on the new clues, I say you have a Vox Wah made in UK. You may also have an original Nobels ODR-1, made in Germany, or something from Jacques, mad in France, both close to Luxembourg. Jacques seems more likely. Denmark is another damn good guess, stallik.

So my updated list goes:
USA
UK
Japan
Malaysia
China
France
Denmark EDIT: considering the last post, it's not Denmark but Taiwan

Could be Korea instead of Malaysia, no way of knowing yet.

willienillie

His wah is American.  His UK pedal is something homemade.

So I'm adding to my for-sure 5:  Malaysia and Netherlands (or possibly Holland)

anotherjim

Oh, I missed the use of the quid £ symbol. So defo one from the UK (does your search engine try to give you ukeleles when you enter uk...)
Wot!!! only 1 pedal DIY'ed!!!  :icon_eek:
And the name of this forum is?

... or are you a world touring type of person and made a pedal in every country you visit?

Fancy Lime

True, I also missed the £. For some reason "vintage Wah" always makes me think "Vox". Crybabys just don't "seem vintage" to me for some reason. Doesn't change my list, though.
