It's always fun receiving a big bag of bits and pieces from Tayda.

This time round, amidst the bags of things that I was expecting was one bag that stood out.

Whilst I'm not a skinflint, I don't see any reason to buy particular resistors if there are some cheaper options available.

But this time I've properly paid the price for being careful with my money, as the slightly cheaper 100K resistors I bought are . . . HUGE!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not as huge as you might be thinking, but much bigger than I was expecting (I'll take a picture later).

ohh, wouldn't it drive the regulars crazy if he deleted the original post, like in that other thread ..... ?

but yeah, giant resistor photos thread of the year so far.

In fact, I've taken two.

These are "normal" resistors, on a folded piece of A4.

. . . and the marginally larger ones on the same piece of paper.

Start making tube amps. Those things are flame proof. Perfect!

Fender Bassman 12AX7 gain -> cathode follower pair uses 100K in both plate load and cathode load positions IIRC.
Build the Bassman preamp.
Build the NIXIE power supply for it.
Profit.

They only cost me about 90p, so luckily my mistake hasn't cost me too much, I might still use them as long as there's no good reason why I shouldn't.

I can think of 100,000 ±5,000 reasons why you should still use them.

3w are .06 cents each. Every other 100k resistor is cheaper on Tayda's site with the exception of the 2w that is .12 cents each. All the others are between 1 and 3 cents each.
The size difference between the 2w and the 3w, is the 3w is 1.5mm longer.

Do those count as "MOJO" parts.

Those things tend to have a higher value in circuits with MOJO boxs.

Great stuff.
Ma throats as dry as an overcooked kipper.

Smoke me a Kipper. I'll be back for breakfast.

You're not wrong.  This build would have been sooo ordinary with teeny boring 1/4W resistors...   :icon_wink:

I'm sure you've said already in the past but I forget - do you make your own tagboards from scratch or buy them from somewhere? Such a sweet/neat/reet petite build!

This board was from the Bay, most likely China or HK.  Originally a 2x12 board, I think.  You can just make out my inexpert trim job.   :icon_redface:
