I literally have not been this excited about a movie for years!

One the one hand, yes. On the other, and I don't want to sound apocalyptic here, it seems a bit like the point where a wave is crashing. There are no documentaries about bands that are innovative NOW, are there? But lots about bands that were innovative in the past. Not the same thing but it nevertheless always makes me worried for the health of anything when someone decides to "document" it. On the third hand, I had an absolutely horrible day so far (don't worry, nothing serious, just all the little things that can go wrong, each one unimportant in and of itself, going wrong in the same day, creating this sense of impending doom), so maybe I should watch the trailer again tomorrow and see if I cannot get a bit more excited about it.

That one's on Youtube, free.  I watched it a few months ago.  Not really a history of fuzz, more just commentary about the pedal business from builders and some users.  Much of it seems to have been from interviews at a NAMM show.

The idea of Reverb making movies seems bizarre, but then I'm sure they know everybody.  Many of the people in the trailer have regularly appeared in either their own Youtube series, or other people's, so we sort of know them.  But it will be interesting to see some of those we tend not to see very much or at all.  Who knows, maybe some will be former members.  A number of boutique makers started out here.

I understand the motivation and business-model.  It's just not something I associate with them.  Maybe Hammond is really bankrolling the whole thing.

Now I'm imagining a "Craigslist movie", done Robert Altman style, with user stories weaving in and out of each other.  This one selling an unused wedding dress, that one selling barely-used winter truck tires, another selling a not-up-to-safety-standards-anymore infant crib, and a 4th looking for a roommate to split an apartment near campus.

So who from DIY Stompboxes is in the movie?  Many current builders came through versions of this forum in the 90's.  I had an idea of writing a book about this topic just last week, but it looks like this movie may cover some of the same ground.  We need to hear from Aron, Mark Hammer, R.G., Jack Orman, Steve Daniels, and so many others who helped these builders get their feet!

(I should probably try to back up the following comment with references to actual science, but I am lazy.  )

Good advertising is much more subtle than you might think.  The idea is not to hit a consumer over the head with reasons they should buy something or utilize a particular service.  Rather, it is to program the subconscious by generating comfortable familiarity.  They just need to reinforce in your brain that they exist.  The more times you see a company's name, especially in the context of something funny or entertaining that stimulates any sort of positive emotion, the more your brain treats it as a familiar factor for subconsciously shaping future decision making.  Human decision making is about having an imperfect information set and optimizing how you exit the otherwise infinite mental processing loop.  Marketing folks steer how you exit the loop rather than trying to steer your conscious thought process.  Your brain is tricked into believing it has more information about something it has seen more often. This gives you the illusion of a better decision making process.
If the film is good, and contains no blatant pro-Reverb propaganda, then it is still very effective marketing.  I just helped their efforts by merely mentioning their name.

We find our glory in the "brand interviews" at the effectsdatabase site where others note this site as the impetus for them starting their career in pedals.

Zachary Vex was a semi-regular here, as was Brian Marshall (Subdecay), Marcus Ahlfsa (Skreddy) and a few others.  Probably even some who didn't identify themselves and used a handle instead.  When I was at Summer NAMM two summers back, I was blown away by how many folks already "knew" me.  I can only assume it was through here, but they probably used an anonymous handle of some sort.

seems like a fun thing to watch, but wonder where are all the non-american builders are? probably a decision to save money. Guys like rainger fx, lovetone, Dr NO, mwfx, hudson electronics, thorpy fx, stonedeaf.

this is obviously just the trailer, but it would be fun not the see all the regular reverb faces everytime. yes i know they financed the movie, but the chances are it would just be a 90minute commercial
