what is the board pinout on the forum vibe. is it emitter collector base. i have looked and can only see emitter.

thanks.

slashandburn

Which vibe?

I'd assume it's more likely to be EBC, but only because all the oldschool tin can transistors I have have the Emittor marked with a tab and they all follow that convention.

plen

the forum vibe version 4. i have seen where it said to use 2n5088 or 2n3906 but on photos of the board i cant see the base and collector pins twisted.

slashandburn

5088 and 3906 can't be right, the former is npn and the latter pnp.

Schematics would help. What components are connected to the base and collector? Cross reference those to the layout.

I built the v5 board and the transistor leg holes were in a triangle to easily accomodate any pinout, a good idea IMO.  But when considered L to R they were arranged for EBC.  Not sure if the v4 board is the same, but probably.

slashandburn

Unless I'm mistaken, 2n5088 and 2n3904 both have the same pinout... EBC.

plen

slashandburn they have the same pinout. willienillie if it is EBC that means 2n5088 and 2n3904 can got straight in. will make it easier.

thanks.

Marcos - Munky

A link would help a lot.

plen

marcus - munky this looks like the same one. i dont think it is completed. i hope i am allowded to post this photo.

Marcos - Munky

Link for the layout, so we can check for the pinouts.

Knowing that both 2N5088 & 2N3904 are npns of the same pinout (E-B-C), it's more than enough to trace only one of the outer legs..
(on posted photo, Q8 & Q9 have their Emitter marked..)

plen

it does not help showing the emitter as its the base and the collector that gets twisted.

antonis

Who says the're twisted..??

i dont mean they are twisted on the forum vibe. i mean on the clone of the original univibe if you use 2n5088 or 2n3904 you have to twist the legs. i didnt know if the forum vibe was the same. the emitter seems to be on the same pin on most transistors but that does not tell you what way the board has the other two pins. i am building from the instructions redhouse gives on the version 4 board. he does thevintage one and the modded one.

antonis

Is there any link or photo of the layout..??

this is where i got it from.

plen

that is all it will post. i will have to get a link or another photo to post.

On Q1, the dot is the emitter. Both other pins are connected to a 200K resistor, so that won't help. But the outer pin of Q1 is connected to middle pin of Q2.

Checking the schematic, you can see that Q1 collector is connected to Q2 base. Comparing this info with the one above, you can conclude that Q1 have emitter on one end and collector on the other end, so base it's in the middle and there's no pins twisted. The same goes for Q2. Since you can use a 2N5088 for all transistors, this should be enough info to assume all transistors have the base on the center.
