Is the TC1 decent for checking transistor hFE?

Does anyone else use one of these? Are they accurate?

I'm building the Aion Rift (Superfuzz). The doc says to try using 2N3904s in certain ranges. The data sheet rates them 100-300. I've been through a big pile of them from various manufacturers and haven't found one under 400 yet.

Any opinions appreciated.

There's a bunch of them on eBay but most have the same guts inside. I have a mk328 and it reads close to my DCA55. I'm gonna say they are fairly accurate compared to a DMM with a hfe tester. If you save your money up, the DCA55 is nice and well built and does test germanium transistors accurately.
