I am working on a pedal i like called the Black Magic Love pedal (link)
the problem i am having is adding a tone control section?I really like the boss hyper fuzz eq section so i have been trying to add it in on the breadboard.I also added a simple boost after to bring volume back up a little (link)everything was going great but now i have 3 bread boards and issues
1. board 1 is for the power section to make vref and vcc 9v and 4.5 v2. board 2 is the tone stack eq section3. board 3 is the boosti dont have 50k b pots so i took 2 100k a pots and added resistors to make them close to 50k..but when they are not connected yet its super loud..as soon as i connect the pots the sound cuts way down and starts to cut in and out so if you wiggle the wires it comes back loud but with a humming noise..like a ground issue and if i wiggle again goes to a quieter volume with no noise issue? not sure what the heck is going on? anyone else have this problem? i am not sure if its a issue mixing the design or the breadboards? any advise would be awsome..or a suggestion for a good eq section also...
P.S.
right after the last resistor 22k to ground original BM schematic - eq section - out to boost - back to the volume pot and out

thanks !!

Delete 22k (R4), make 470k (R2) 1k or so, delete 500k Volume pot, connect a 10k pot on pin 3 for Volume setting and come back and report..  :icon_wink:

P.S.1
Don't know your particular EQ loss so maybe 10dB boost aren't enough..

P.S.2
Your chosen booster couldn't be considered as the state of the art..

hey that worked good thanks !! do you have a better boost you could recommend?

also do you know about taming the sizzle while distortion is on 10? lol...
if i could just tame it a bit..it goes fine till the very end of the sweep (distortion knob) then sounds nice and distorted but a little sizzle or crackle not sure how to describe? have you ever made this one? hey thanks for the tips!!!

Never dealt with LM386 in a distortion circuit.. :icon_wink:
But, IMHO, Distortion pot should work better in case of lug3 connected to pin1 & lug2 (wiper) connected to pin 8, with lug1 disconnected from GND..

P.S.
On booster posted by 11-90-an, you better replace 330k (R2) with a 1M trimmer for better gain setting..

I tried it out... was i supposed to leave pin 1 and 8 connected?

i didn't like the distortion sound it produced this way? so i put it back and now the strange noise is gone? hmm
