Leaving a volume pot out of the circuit questions.

Hello. I'm new and need some confirmation. I want to leave the volume pot OFF the final circuit for my Mockman build (my first). Looking at the schematic I figure I can just take the output signal as a lead from the junction of the 100K resistor/Capacitor labeled Cx/and the location where the pot would have been. I'll then hook up a 50K resistor from there to ground, simulating a pot with full volume (no resistance between the input lug and the wiper,). Would this be a correct way to eliminate the pot and maintain full volume from the effect whenever it's on? I guess telling you I'm new wasn't revealing much of a secret, eh?  :icon_lol: Thanks for any help.

Welcome, also.. :icon_wink:

100k resistor & Cx set the upper pole of a band-pass filter, so you might have to take it into account..

if you leave the original value intact, it should stay the same.
it strikes me as odd that it uses the opamps themselves to create distortion, while also saying ''''any dual opamp will do''''

welcome to the forun

Thank all of you very much. I've been enjoying the sight. It is kinda inspirational. On the schematic they do say any op amp will do. On the website they get specific with "flavorings." They recommend 2, JRC4558 and TLC2262. I plan on socketing and see what the different ones can do. Thanks again.

ofcourse, but they will all sound different, the TL072 can even do some odd octave/noisy stuff when the input voltage range exceeds the prescribed limits, the LM385 sounds quite ''soft'' compared to the 4558.
so, when the distortion character is coming directly from the opamp, choosing which opamp you use is elemental for the end product.
of course, this applies only a little bit to most overdrives and distortions that rely on diodes for the clipping character.
