where are all the FV-1's?

hi guys, ive been trying to get hold of a couple of FV-1's

but it seems like all the usual suspects have run dry...

i'm building a 2U 19'' rack with delay, fv-1/fv24 , and cab sim...a kind of just add dirt rack

for home recording, and to save space on my bench, but cannot seem to find these pesky fv-1's anywhere....its the only thing thats holding me up now...

any ideas. ?   cheers.

I do know that getting hold of ICs is a nightmare at the moment, so maybe other people are having the same problems.

There is a severe global shortage of ICs of nearly all types that starting getting bad early this year. Who knows when supply will catch up.

ive just been up my garage for an MOT, and even they was talking about a shortage for the motor industry too..

weird...wonder what brought that on...hmmmm....

lets hope it doesnt affect basics like opamps etc...

Well apart from industry like car manufacturers at the start of Covid deciding not to order as many electronic chips as they expected sales of cars to drop at the time, there has been a number of fires that have closed down a  few semiconductor fabrication factories. A lot of the Semiconductor manufacture industry do not expect to get back up to full production anytime before 2024. Some of the hardest hit are the Codec chips. A lot of these codec chips will now be EOL due to the possibility that not only did the factories to make them burnt down but I expect the die's also went up in the fires.

I ordered a couple dozen FV-1 at the beginning of the year and only used a couple, so I reckon I still have the biggest stash around

It is a mix of reasons, things like the AKM and Renesas fires caused the remaining fabs that make similar products to get slammed.

Consumer electronics sales rose last year as people worked from home and purchased new computers, switches, audio devices, etc. and that ate into the buffers suppliers try to keep. Basically all the buffers are at 0.

Lock downs around the world caused production to slow or even stop in some cases, all of a sudden you get an email that the assembly house is closed for some number of weeks or they are running at half speed as they need to social distance and that means they can only operate every other machine.

Lead times for even basic devices are very long, the official lead time for a 24LC32A-I/P DIP version is 52 weeks, SOIC is a little better but when they sell out it is back to next July for more.

An article out of Taiwan was sent to me by a vendor, it talked about how they need to build more machines to solve the semiconductor shortage but they can't because they can't get the chips they need to build the machines due to the semiconductor shortage.

There is no single problem and no single solution. Each day for me is about figuring out what the current issue is, how to solve it and to guess what the next issue will be and try to get ahead of it. The Taiwan level 3 alert, in place since May, was not expected and hit us all hard. Taiwan had been very careful on screening people entering the country but they had a COVID outbreak anyway and that is causing a lot of delays in the production flow.

Same here Nathan I ordered a tube of 26 a few weeks ago but there nearly all gone now. Lots of other chips are scarce as well.

Well you also do a lot more cool stuff with them than I do My FV-1 dabbling is very limited, thus my continued stock.

Glad I stopped by on my lunch break. Looking to do my first FV-1 stuff, and last time I found some they sold out SO fast, before I could finish my order

We fell into the mistake to order from aliexpress..now we got 400 pedals with fake fv1s on them.....
Luckily we got another batch from experimental noize, but we will have to replace them manually..uughhhh

I went with the buy cheap pay twice philosophy....which has held up so far...


400     to manually swap over.....jeez,  not good.....
