Hello. I have voltage readings at all points but the last resistor to the volume pot out has no voltage. The LED is on but no sound on bypass or on. A bad 1k resistor? Everything looks to be soldered well, no fray wires, and readings on all points. I'm new to this so any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

Most - maybe all - of the people who will probably try to help you won't have ever built an Azimuth or even know what it is. So please follow the instructions in this sticky post: https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=29816.0.

Hi & Welcome.. :icon_wink:

1k resistor (R5) shouldn't have any DC voltage due to DC blocking capacitor (C5).. :icon_wink:

Could you plz post some other voltage readings and pics of your build..??

I removed the 1k resistor yesterday, novice mistake I take it as I am, but here are some readings:
C5 capictor: 3.85
Op amp
1 - 3.86
2- 3.85
3- 2.62
4- 0
5- 3.62
6- 3.84
7- 3.84
8- 7.9
Thank you so much for your help. Much appreciated.

Wasn't sure about soldering the op amp, solder or no soldering? Definitely sloppy solder job here and there, I know that factors , not my best work. Thanks!

Voltage readings are OK.. :icon_wink:
(pin 3 low reading is probably due to DMM's impedance..)

P.S.1
I've just realized you said "no sound on both 3PDT switch setting"..
That leads to switch board mis-wiring..

P.S.2
Your battery voltage is quite low but OK for testing purpose..

P.S.3
I'll pretend I didn't see you've soldered IC on it's socket.. :icon_mrgreen:

Make sure your guitar is going to the input jack and the amp to the output jack.  This can easily be confused when you're working on the circuit and everything is upside down.

So if there is no sound on both switch on and off, should I re-do the wiring harness? I checked the connections and it all looks good, no frayed wires, and I do believe the foot switch and wire harnesses are installed correctly, no solder overflow. Could it be a faulty pcb connection? All new to me. Thanks!

Ideally, you want test with four wires - in, out, power, ground - connected to the board and to the jacks and battery. This will rule out problems with the switch itself, the secondary board, and all the connectors. This should always be the first test after assembly and before connecting all the off-board extras.

the diode circled appears to be a russian type, and they mark the Anode with a band, not the Kathode. the arrow is pointing to the germanium disk, usually the kathode end. so I think your diode is backwards.

also welcome. also, I included the IC in shot so antonis could see - it's been soldered to the socket!

** the backwards russians turn up so often here, it might be time for pedal vendors to update or include notifications in their documentation.

Thank you Duck, I really appreciate that information. I will reverse the diode.

So, I'm affraid I can't be the great pretender anymore.. :icon_cool:

The diode was absolutely in backwards,  the germanium disk was the lesson to learn for me, thank you, now I know a little more about circuits. The marking on the pcb indicates aligning the diode mark with the mark on the board, similar to another kit I put together. However the directions in the kit did indicate that this germanium diode would have to be put in backwards, also there was a big note wrapped around the diode indicating that, which I absolutely ignored. Thought I knew it all after two kit builds, this was a good humbling experience, yet I learned a lot more by the mistake. Thank you all for your help, amazing online community, very much appreciated, the pedal sounds awesome. Case closed.

Can't figure out the way a reverse placed diode inside NFB loop could make a silent pedal, even in bypass mode.. :icon_eek:
