Can I add an fx loop - or hardwired effect to PT2399 delayed signal only?

Hey!

I would like to know how I can either add an additional effect OR effect loop to the delayed signal only (on a PT2399). I don't have a particular delay picked out to mod but if you need one, pick whichever you like!

I imagine it's doable.. Hopefully not too difficult to pull off! I appreciate your help!

I have no idea what I'm doing.

Not difficult at all. Can you identify where the dry and delayed signals are mixed on a schematic?

I don't have a final project one picked out but I found a schematic for the "crap-fi" delay that looks pretty simple. I think I know where it is - there is a part where it comes in and touches pin 16/15 and goes to the mix pot which I assume is the dry signal and then 12/11 go to the other side of the mix pot. I couldn't get a direct link to work for whatever reason but here is a link to a screenshot - https://i.gyazo.com/b9943896d2c97cfad4f60ddde9d79697.png

I am guessing the basic idea in general is if I can figure out where the wet signal is going to the mix I can just send it in to another effect and back out in to the mix knob?

If you have a delay you think would be easier to mess with or whatever I am open to suggestions! Thanks so much for your time and help.

One thing worth considering is what exactly you want your effects loop to do.

One example: you could do the inserts right before the output mixing. In this case each delay repeat passes though the effects loop and then mixes directly with the dry to the final effect output.

Second example: you place the inserts in the repeat path. In this case whatever you put in the loop feeds back into the delay input. This can be very cool if you are using something like a phaser or other modulation effect because the inserted effect builds up continually through the repeats. This is really great for creating a "pad" sound underneath your delay. Further example: putting a reverb loop in the repeats path!

Going even further: do both options with some kind of switching.

Sheesh! Both options sound really cool. I have a feeling I'm not quite smart enough to figure out how to do all that. It seems like it would be simple but I don't understand what's going on well enough to know for sure where to put ins/outs. I need to find a good write up on what all the pt2399 pins are doing probably before I can really move forward. Thanks for the ideas to consider!
